The decision was principally due to changing forces in agriculture that we are experiencing today. New programs and attitudes favor green energy and bio-fuels, food safety issues leading to source identification, product differentiation, livestock development and agri-tourism. Couple these forces with the reality that this region leads in the production of a diverse crop base and it is logical to see the opportunities to enhance value beyond production agriculture.
Led by NDSU Langdon Research Extention Center, the plan was developed by and for the farmers, ranchers and agri-businesses in the region.
